Tiptoeing through the wonderful world of office electronics

Have you noticed that even if you work at home nowadays, you can have an office electronics system that a few years ago you’d associate with a multinational company.  If you aspire to  internet, video, and audio conferencing facilities in your own home – then you can have them – no problem.

In fact the sophistication of home phone systems makes recommending an IP office business phone system something of a task.  Just as mobile phones are now must have gadgets – so are some of the home telecom systems.

It only seems yesterday that you needed a fax machine to do business.  Now they are old hat. But if you must send a Fax, then your printer or PC can probably manage it.  And scan the document at the same time.

In an era when a mobile phone can be a gps system and find you a curry on the way home. – what do you want from your office electronic system?  Well I suppose top of the agenda would be that everything works.  Because if you are doing business – you need to be businesslike.

I like the idea of video-conferencing from your own home.  Somehow the idea that you can project your face to the other side of the world and do a presentation as professionally as a bloke with green glasses from Saatchi & Saatchi is both amusing and impressive a the same time.

There is a snag with telephone conferences from home though… particularly if you have a dog and the postman calls.  Suddenly your slick and impressive business proposition looks and sounds shambolic.  It’s a bit like linking your phone to a serviced office so that your would-be clients think you are in the office.  It all works swimmingly until the dog starts barking – or whining for its dinner.

But all in all you can’t blame office systems for barking dogs.  The selection of capable gizmos at affordable prices is quite astonishing really.
