Do I need to upgrade my mobile phone?

Why is it that every year you get offered an ‘upgrade’ by your mobile service provider?  I can’t think of any other service where you are happy with what you have got (apart from the price of the service) when you get offered something different.

I mean – anyone would think that you are not happy with your existing phone – that you got from the very same service provider.all of one year previously.  Now call me cynical – but why on earth do none of the mobile phone service providers never spontaneously offer you a lower call charge?

If you have a look on-line you will see plenty of tempting offers for call bundles, free texts or some such unmissable offer.  But the problem is – how on earth do you choose between mobile phone networks?  Most use the same phones – and most seem to be overly expensive.  So how do you choose between one mobile phone network and the next?

The first thing to bear in mind is that someone out there is keen to sell mobile phone so you are not exactly getting unbiased advice.  And how about all those TV advertisements that promise to buy your old phone?  How does that work.  I reckon they must be examples of a mobile phone xchange scam.  Why else would you get money for a crap bit of technology that is not good to anyone.

I have always though that the most valuable thing about your phone is the multitude of numbers that somebody can probably get out of it.  And therein lies the problem.  If a computer that you no longer want is not the sort of thing that you would sell on to anybody – or even take to the tip…. Why would you pass your phone on to anybody?

Surely there are no more sensitive details about your identity than the numbers you ring?  And if so – why do we give them away in return for the promise of nto very much money?   Don’t ask me –  I wouldn’t give my phone away to anybody – even for money.
