How to be a Style Guru

OK, I’ll admit few of my friends would call me trendy – but just recently I have become a bit of a style guru.  And I have achieved this without slavishly reading T5, Stuff, or any of the myriad of spurious style magazines.  I’ll let you into a little secrect.  If you want to know what gadgets and life style accessories are cool – you simply need to keep yourself updated on-line.

I am so untrendy that I don’t have, nor want an ipod or an iphone.  Even hearing the word ‘app’ makes me want to vomit – but after careful consideration of the merits of  ipod nanosocks, I need never worry that my trousers are a trifle short, ever again.

I do enjoy a bit of cycling.  I always have done.   You seem to take in so much more of your surroundings when you take in life at a slightly more relaxing pace.  And here’s the thing… it’s very easy to feel slightly uncool when pedalling in the diesel fumes of a number 165 bus, simply because your steed is so last year.  Again, thanks to my good friends at trend farm I never need worry again – even if the idea of a bike without gears does strike me as utter madness.

The other day I was sitting in my car on the way to work when I happened to notice that the car in front of me was an old Toyota.  And in the window was a sticker with a slogan you might remember.  ‘The car in front is a Toyota’.  A few years ago those blokes with green glasses at Saatchi’s must have thought that was a stroke of creative genius.  But now it simply reminds you to watch out that a Toyota may well have its accelerator stuck on full throttle.  Having said that – they do seem to be making the occasional car that you or I would aspire to own – assuming that it actually works.

I am not sure how I got through the week before I became a trend guru.  Admittedly, glamorous women have yet to start asking my opinions on ipads v notebooks or any other must-have gadgetry dilemmas.  But I can hold my own at the water cooler.
